Madame Pompadour Vintage Madeira Embroidery 16pc Placemat Setting for 8

The love affairs of Madame de Pompadour, mistress to Louis XV, are lavishly illustrated in linen and organdy, with an elaborate honeycomb background. Embroidered by hand in Madeira. This rare 1930s pattern, part of the Romance Series designed by Herman Klein for Imperial Linens, adapts scenes from 18th-century master paintings.* rare set, and very beautiful.

Four distinct scenes appear in the set—two mats of each—each one a small masterpiece of Madeira artistry.

Excellent condition, gently used. Hand laundered, bright and clean. We note some ultra faint discolorations on the napkins – practically impossible to see. This set looks marvelous.

Setting for 8:
8 placemats 13 x 18 inches;

8 napkins, 17.5 x 18 inches.
