Butterflies & Yellow Blooms Vintage Rapisardi 24pc Placemat Set for 12

Something extraordinary from the Baroness.

A gorgeous and expressive set from the Baroness Rapisardi, featuring an exuberant motif of trembler-winged butterflies and painterly yellow blooms. Hand embroidered in Italy on semi-sheer linen using punto stuoia—a traditional filling stitch and a hallmark of Rapisardi designs—this setting for twelve is vibrant, refined, and full of artistry.

We’ve never had this pattern before, and it's seldom seen—especially as a complete service for twelve. In fact, a full Rapisardi setting for twelve is something we rarely see! The embroidery is richly detailed, with floating wings that hover above the linen and a palette that feels fresh and expressive. A striking example of mid-century Italian needlework from the Baroness.

The pattern of the placemats and napkins is the same, but the generous size of the napkins suggests this may be a married set.

Very good condition, gently used, not quite perfect. Hand laundered, bright and clean, with some faint storage spots on a napkin. We note an eraser-sized hole on one napkin, and a pin-sized hole on another (see last photo for both). Easily forgiven on a set this rare, and the overall presentation is luminous.

Setting for 12:
12 placemats, 12 x 17.5 inches;
12  napkins, 22 x 22 inches.
