Graceful Lily of the Valley, hand embroidered in Point de Beauvais by D. Porthault. Worked in a tight chain stitch, the embroidery has a fluid, almost painterly quality. The leaves shift through deep blue and green, the threads layered to give each one real depth and shading. The tiny bells, worked in blue and white, are as delicate as the flower itself.
The embroidery colors are rich and unfaded, and the design is as beautiful up close as it is across the table.
Point de Beauvais pieces are rare to begin with. A complete D. Porthault setting for 10 in this condition, with this quality of work, is something else entirely.
Condition is excellent, gently used. Hand laundered, clean and bright.
