Rare vintage placemats, featuring the twelve months of the year in medieval theme. Italian hand embroidery, circa 1960, these are elusive treasures from the Baroness Rapisardi. We love Rapisardi linens, with their rich colors and unusual motifs - ultra charming, and always beautiful.
The inspiration for this particular design are the illustrations of "Labors of the Months" from the famous 15th century Book of Hours, the Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry. Patterned after the originals, each placemat illustrates an activity appropriate to the month - hunting, planting, marrying - accented with small astrological symbols (like the originals).
These. Are. Gorgeous.
Excellent condition, gently used. Hand laundered, clean and bright. So lovely to look at.
