Marghab's magnificent "Vineyard."
Vintage Marghab placemat set in one of the most beautiful—and technically demanding—designs the house ever made. Hand embroidered in Madeira, by the most expert of hands.
Dense clusters of plump grapes in graduated shades of pink and burgundy cascade across sheer organdy placemats, accented by appliqué leaves and trailing tendrils. The matched napkins are fine Irish linen. The organdy coasters are wreathed in grapes and leaves, and each organdy cocktail napkin carries a single cluster. Lush and lovely.
A single "Vineyard" placemat and napkin could take four weeks to embroider, and only three of Madeira's finest embroideresses could execute the pattern.* Because of its great expense, only about four Vineyard sets were sold annually. This is one of them. A full setting for 12, quite possibly a year in the making.
Where would you find such craftsmanship today? This is rare and fabulous.
Condition is excellent, gently used. Hand laundered, clean and bright, with some faint discolorations, minor and easily forgiven. The cocktail napkins are unused, and their organdy is a shade darker. This set looks wonderful.
