Vintage Porthault “Cirque” Matisse-Inspired Tablecloth & Napkin Set, 72” Round

Very rare, extremely fabulous.

Striking mid-century modern tablecloth by D. Porthault, France, in the rare Cirque (“Circus”) pattern — a bold appliquéd design inspired by the cut-paper forms of Matisse. Bursts of red and yellow energize the black and blue linen ground, capturing the playfulness and color of 1950s French modernism. Complete with matching napkins.

Condition is excellent. The tablecloth appears unused. Hand laundered, crisp and clean, with only faint irregularities in the blue dye. Eight napkins are included — three yellow linen, three red cotton, and two blue linen — all bright and beautifully preserved.

Round tablecloth, 72 inches in diameter;
8 napkins, 16.5 × 17 inches.
